On July 31, 2026, Amy, James (Danny) and Amataya (Mati) Witter accompanied each other into heaven due to a motor vehicle accident in Kendall County Illinois.
Amy and Danny raised their three daughters at their home in Des Moines, Iowa. Amy Witter, age 38, was born to William and Kay Witter in Des Moines, Iowa where she grew up graduating from North High School. Amy was employed by VA Central Iowa Healthcare System, Veterans Canteen Service.
James (Danny) Witter, age 65, was born to Mamie Bartley and Clarence Hawkins in Chicago, Illinois. He grew up in many locations including Chicago, Illinois. At the time of his death, he was employed as a car courier for Adesa.
Amataya (Mati) Witter, age 4, was born to Amy and James Witter in Des Moines, Iowa. She was raised in Des Moines with her parents and two sisters. She was a vivacious child always keeping you on your toes, loved going to pockey (hockey) games and eating egg “samwichs” at grandma and grandpa’s house.
The family were members of All Saints Catholic Church in Des Moines, Iowa.
The family is survived by daughters/sisters Alyxandra and Azareya, Danny’s six older children and grandchildren, Amy’s parents William and Kay Witter, sister Ane (Kacy Byrd) Witter, niece Sam/Connor Meade, Aunts Dawn Stewart, Susan Anderson, Uncles David (Beth) Anderson, Donnie Witter, Danny’s siblings, Lawrence Watson, Brenda Love, Ola Love, Kenneth Hawkins and Emmerson Whitfield Hawkins, and a host of cousins, family members, and family friends.
Preceding the family in death were Danny’s parents, Amy’s grandparents Vernon and Mary Ellen Anderson, Robert and Dolores Stewart, Uncles Leo Carl, Richard and Jerry Anderson, Matthew Witter; Aunts Mary (Andy) Santaniello, Lynn Witter, and other cousins and friends.
Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in loving remembrance for a visitation on Tuesday, September 1, 2026, from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50315. Your presence, love, and support will be deeply appreciated during this time of remembrance.
