In Honor of the wishes of our father, Tyrone Weston, there will be no traditional funeral or memorial service. Instead, we, the family wish to share the following:
Tyrone “Rocky” Weston departed this life January 11, 2021 at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.
Tyrone (lovingly known as Rocky) was born August 3, 1946 in Des Moines, Iowa to Evelyn Campbell and Clarence Weston. Rocky was raised in Des Moines and educated in the Des Moines school system. He attended Crocker Elementary and graduated from North High school where he played on the “polar bears” football team.
Rocky was united in holy matrimony to Shelia Wells in 1963. From this union they were blessed with two children, Chrisee and Tryone Jr. affectionately known as “Buffy and Jody.”
Rocky was employed at Bookey Packing Company for several years and was a school bus driver for the Des Moines Public Schools.
He was a wonderful person with an outgoing personality. He loved God, family, and music. Rocky was a very passionate person who was always willing to extend a helping hand in any way possible. He has touched many lives throughout the community.
Rocky had many hobbies, and lifetime interest. He boxed and was a boxing coach for the youth. He loved bowling and had won several trophies. Going out to dinner after church on Sundays was one of his favorite things to do. He would invite family and friends to enjoy a meal with him. He was very gracious about handling the bill as well.
Rocky’s love of music was noticed through his many endeavors such as “Gospel music on the move” his T.V. show that took gospel music into the homes of the sick and shut ins. The various singing groups he was involved with. Bringing gospel singers to Des Moines from other cities. The many programs he sponsored, such as Old Ship of Zion. He was a true supporter and mentor of anything supportive of the church. Even participating in pastors’ anniversaries.
Rocky was preceded in death by his mother, Evelyn Campbell, his father Clarence Weston, sisters Rachel Campbell and Verna Jean Johnson.
He leaves to mourn his loss his daughter, Chrisee Weston (Buffy), his son Tyrone Weston Jr. (Jody) both of Iowa, his grandsons, Steven (T.L.) Willis of Arizona and DeVondre Williams of Iowa. Sisters, Veda Weston, Michelle Weston, and Sylvia Weston and brother, Raymond Campbell. Extended family, sisters and brothers, Sandra Cheers, Marsha Cheers, Sam Cheers, Mike Cheers and Sherry Cheers all from St. Louis, MO., and a host of nieces and nephews. Last of all a devoted first cousin Edna M. Vaughn.
Peace be Still
