Steve was born on March 16, 1942, in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from North High School in January of 1960 and received his Bachelors and Masters degrees from UNI. He taught math for 3 years at Denison High School, 13 years at Franklin Junior High, and 17 years at Roosevelt High School. In the evenings and weekends, he tutored hundreds of students in math for 40+ years. Students remembered him for his patience, his kindness, and his large collection of neckties.

After retiring from teaching, Steve worked with his wife, Betty, as a supplier for dollhouse miniatures. Their business allowed them to travel around the U.S. for weekend shows. Steve retired from dollhouse miniatures after Betty’s death, giving him more time for traveling to see National Parks sites and for spending time with family.

He is survived by his son Phil (Karen) and their children Zackary, Carter, and Addie; son Roger (Tammy) and their daughter Gwen; sister, Nancy (Wayne); brother Marshall (Charlotte); and sister-in-law Elaine. Steve was preceded in death by his parents, Willard and Dorothy, and his wife, Betty.
