Sharon Renee Selmer

Sharon Renee Selmer, 59, of Granger, Iowa passed away on November 3rd, 2020. She was born to George and Virginia Bobek on June 24th, 1961 in Omaha, Nebraska.


Sharon grew up in Omaha, Nebraska as the youngest sibling of three and it was very evident then that she had a zest and an energy for life that carried her through all her days. Sharon had a love for children. She went to Metro Tech Community College and attended courses in Early Childhood Education.


Sharon was married in 1984 and was a homemaker who had five children who were the love of her life. Sharon homeschooled all five of her kids and made sure every day was filled with fun and laughter. Whether it was putting on giant birthday parties, coordinating the Good News Puppet Ministry, or leading Vacation Bible School, Sharon did everything with complete compassion. She accepted everyone no matter their background. Sharon left a memorable impression on everyone she met and had an infectious smile and hug that would knock you off your feet from how tight it was. Everyone will remember Sharon for her love for Jesus and the way she lived out her faith unabashedly. It was ultimately her spirituality that gave her the strength and courage to live through the final challenges of her life.


Sharon is survived by the father of her children, John Selmer of Story City, IA. Sons, Jason Selmer (Janelle) and Jordan Selmer of Ankeny, IA. Daughters, Stephanie Villasenor of Ankeny, IA, Jessica Kiburz (Nick) of Des Moines, IA and Samantha Selmer of Ames, Iowa. Grandson, Noah Selmer of Des Moines, IA. Sister, Kathy McLaughlin of Phoenix, AZ and Brother, Wayne Bobek (Jill) of Omaha, NE. She was preceded in death by her parents, George and Virginia Bobek of Omaha, NE.


Gravesite burial service to be held on Friday November 6th, 2020 at 11:00 am at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery, 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, IA 50310.
