Ruth A. Reeck

Ruth Anna Reeck, 95, of Des Moines, was called home to her heavenly father on May 7.

Ruth was born on October 1, 1925 to Walter and Elsie McDivitt. Ruth spent her childhood in Urbandale, Iowa. Ruth was raised in the Open Bible church and later joined First Assembly. She graduated from Urbandale High School where Ruth played basketball and was a majorette.


After high school Ruth had the coolest job as she worked in the fur department of Younkers downtown. On June 27, 1947, at her childhood home, she married Jack Reeck and together they had one daughter, Gloria. Ruth and Jack used to enjoy traveling to Minnesota and Canada for summer fishing trips. She was a trophy winning bowler, poker player, gardener, fisherman, bird watcher, and all around outdoorsman. Ruth made killer french fries whenever there was a family gathering. She loved spending time with her three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

Ruth was predeceased by her parents Walter and Elsie McDivitt, husband Jack, sisters Geneva Lindhorst and Maxine Huser and brother Melvin McDivitt. She is survived by her daughter Gloria Crow (Ted), three grandchildren Amy Parsons (Jason), Travis Crow (Alicia), Brian Crow, her two great-grandchildren Bailey and Jack Crow and sister Margie Foshe.

Visitation will be 4-7 p.m., Tuesday, at DSM First Church, 2725 Merle Hay Road. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, at the church with interment at Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.
