Robert Merle McAfee, 87, of Des Moines, Iowa went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, surrounded by his family at Genesis Senior Living Care Center. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, February 7, 2023, at Merle Hay Funeral Home at 11:00 AM, with visitation one hour prior. Interment will follow at Chapel Hill Gardens cemetery.
He was born March 23, 1935, to Merle and Hazel McAfee in Des Moines, Iowa. He graduated from East High School. Bob was united in marriage to Barbara Engstrum on October 19, 1973, she resides in Kyle, Texas; they lived in Polk City for 46 years. Bob entered the United States Army in 1958 and was Honorably discharged in 1962. He retired from The Wittern Group in Des Moines. He enjoyed fishing, taking walks, bingo, and gardening with his wife Barbara. He was an active member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church in Ankeny, Iowa.
Bob is survived by his wife Barbara McAfee of Kyle, Texas; children, Toni Coats, Robert (Julie) McAfee, Laura (Lee) Waugh; stepdaughter, Dianna (Rick) Lang; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
He was proceeded in death by his parents, sisters, Wanda Reyes, Zelma Terry, Jenny Chapman, Joyce Millard, granddaughter Crystal Coats.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be in care of the family.
