Paul Victor Johnson, Jr of Johnston passed away Wednesday, January 20, 2021.
The son of Paul and Edith Johnson, Paul was born August 13, 1941 in Atlantic, Iowa, where he grew up one of seven children. Out of school, he worked in construction for a time, became a delivery driver for a local oil company, and then was employed at Lomar Wholesale Foods for many years until he retired in 2006. He and his wife, Diana Beers Johnson, were married March 7, 1980, blending their families and together raising six children.
Paul was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather to his large family. He and Diana enjoyed traveling around the country during retirement, and he was especially fond of the trips to Oregon and California to visit two of his sons and their families. His family meant everything to him. Paul enjoyed fishing and, for several years, he and Diana accompanied family to Bemidji, Minnesota, for camping/fishing trips. He also enjoyed coffee club with his many friends. His favorite saying was, “Show me the money!”
Paul was a member of Luther Memorial Church in Des Moines, where he and his wife enjoyed fellowship and group activities.
Paul is survived by his wife, Diana Johnson of Johnston, IA; brothers Duane Johnson of Urbandale, IA and Dennis Johnson of Atlantic, IA; sisters Barbara Tawzer in South Dakota; Norma Varian (Walt) of Urbandale, IA; his children: Paul Johnson III (Angela) of Portland, OR; Michael Johnson (Monique) of Hermosa Beach, CA; Jeffrey Johnson (Tammy) of Johnston, IA; Edward Newman (Melissa) of Altoona, IA; Kimberly Spencer Kline of West Des Moines, IA; and Lynda Jurgens of Des Moines, IA; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; brother William Johnson; and sister Jean Harless of Des Moines, IA.
A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
