Norma Lucille Peters-Lary

Norma Lucille Peters-Lary, age 93, passed away peacefully on Sunday, September 10, 2023 at Mill Pond Care Center in Ankeny, Iowa. She was born on June 18, 1930 in Dexter, Iowa to parents George and Fern Carrington.


Norma was the strongest, most loving and caring person you’ll ever meet. Most of her working life she was a home daycare provider. Norma loved her family and friends the most, as well as the Chicago Cubs, Scrabble, Bingo, The Price Is Right, gardening, dancing, homemade ice cream, cherry pie and family BBQ’s. She loved her grandkids and went to all of their activities including softball, marching band, football, soccer and concerts. She was always there for them.


Norma is survived by her children, Beatrice (Gary) Cerpovicz, Robert (Ceci) Hickman and Linda Soley; eight grandchildren, Jessica Ridout, Michelle Collignon, Danielle Stairs, Becky Hickman, Mike Tiano, Josh Tiano, Shannon Hickman and Derek Hickman; thirteen great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.


She is preceded in death by her loving husband, Guy R Lary (passed 2017); previous husband, Leland Peters (passed 2000); parents, George and Fern Carrington; children, Jon Alan Ridout, Kyle Eugene Ridout, Shan Marie Ridout and Kevin Wayne Ridout; brothers and sisters, Fred Carrington, Clarice Ohs, Warren Carrington, Curtis Carrington, Keith Carrington and Kenneth Carrington; and great-granddaughter, Scarlet Rose.


Norma and Guy loved going to the Northwest Community Senior Center together and had many friends there. She is now reunited with her sweetheart, Guy in heaven. During her time at Mill Pond Care Center, Norma made many friends and loved watching the ducks and birds. She loved all of her care providers and staff there. They made her last years memorable.


A funeral service will be held on Monday, September 18th, 2023, at 2pm with a visitation one hour prior at 1pm at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310. Following, a burial at Chapel Hill Gardens.
