Marilyn Jane Browne

Marilyn Jane Browne, 91, died August 24, 2026, at Madrid Home in Madrid, Iowa.

She was born on October 16, 1934, in Madison, South Dakota to Lester and Myrtle Robbins. Marilyn was raised in Howard, South Dakota alongside siblings Dick and Janet. Marilyn was a 1952 graduate of Howard High School. Upon graduating High School Marilyn attended the University of South Dakota, pledging Alpha Phi Sorority. The following year Marilyn attended Nettleton College in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Marilyn was united in marriage to Miles Browne on August 21, 1955. They made their home in Sioux Falls, South Dakota. While there they welcomed children, Karen and Stanley.

1960 found the family moving to Urbandale, Iowa. Another son, Steven, joined the family.

Miles and Marilyn enjoyed the same home for 58 years before moving to Illahee Hills retirement home in Urbandale.

Marilyn’s career revolved around finance. First at Commercial Credit Equipment Corporation. In the early 1980’s she managed a branch of Commercial Credit. In 1988 she became a loan officer at First Iowa Credit Union, later becoming First Class Credit Union. Marilyn continued in that capacity until her retirement.

Marilyn enjoyed spending time with her family and friends. If you were to visit Marilyn, you could find her reading a good book, sewing, crafting or baking chocolate chip cookies. The family loved her fried chicken made in a very old cast iron skillet or her homemade Italian meatballs.

Survived by daughter Karen (Brent) Kowalsky of Johnston, IA, sons Stan Browne of Madrid, IA and Steve (John) Browne of Chicago, grandson Brandon Kowalsky, brother Dick (Darlene) Robbins, Sioux Falls, SD and nephew Cody (Adriana) Workman of Henderson, NV.

Preceded in death by her husband Miles, her parents and sister Janet Workman.

Celebration of life will be held on Wednesday, September 23, 2026, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 3600 75th St, Urbandale, IA 50322, Visitation starting at 9:30 am and service at 11:00 am.

Memorial gifts can be given to Aldersgate United Methodist Church or St. Croix Hospice.
