It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Leons Mikelis Palevics Jr., known lovingly as Mika to his family and friends, passed away peacefully at home on January 7, 2026, at the age of 53. Services will be held Sunday, January 18, with visitation from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m., followed by the service at 12:00 p.m.
Mika was born on January 28, 1972, in Des Moines, Iowa. He grew up in Clive and graduated from Valley High School in 1990. He spent many cherished summers at Latvian Camp Garezers in Three Rivers, Michigan, where he completed the high school program and formed lifelong friendships.
Â
Mika worked for many years in the mailing industry, which took him to several cities, including Omaha, Indianapolis, and Denver. No matter where life led him, time with family and friends was always a priority.
Â
He was a devoted member of the Latvian community in Iowa and had a deep love for animals. Mika will be remembered for his warmth, loyalty, and the meaningful connections he built throughout his life.
Â
He was preceded in death by his parents, Leons and Dzidra Palevics. He is survived by his sisters Astra (Jeff, Nils and Meta) Pike, Sandra (Ryan, Kennedy and Levi) Dostal, and Arija Palevics, and extended family.
Â
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Latvian Center Garezers or Furry Friends Refuge.
The Palevics’s family invites all in attendance to stay for a luncheon immediately following the services today.Â
