Leon Atchison 50, of Des Moines, Iowa passed away Wednesday, April 28, 2021 at home surrounded by his loved ones.
Leon Lavone Atchison was born on February 12, 1971 in Des Moines, Iowa; he was the son of Leon and Karen (Enos) Atchison Sr. On July 24, 2004 Leon was united in marriage to Melissa Brown in Des Moines where they made their forever home.
Leon had been a painter most of his life, a job he loved. He loved watching his NASCAR racing and playing online NASCAR with his friends. He enjoyed fishing and four wheeling with his kids and grandkids, whom he loved and adored. The Dallas Cowboys was Leon’s favorite team win or lose. Leon will be remembered as a fun and fun-loving soul that never knew a stranger and could bring a smile to your face.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 32 years, Melissa, children, Daniel (Ashley) Atchison and Brittany (Ryan) Howell grandchildren, Gaige, Aubrey, Axel, Liam, Oliviah and Camden, siblings, Kathy (Rick) Wessel and Sherri (Rich) Rice. In death Leon rejoins his parents, Leon and Karen Atchison and sister, Peggy Atchison.
Visitation will be on Monday, May 3, 2021 from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines. Funeral services will follow visitation at 12:00 p.m. with interment following at Elm Grove Cemetery, 6501 Indianola Ave, Des Moines.
In place of flowers, memorials may be left to the family.
