Larry Pardubsky

Larry W. Pardubsky, 82, passed away peacefully on November 8, 2023, following a lengthy battle with MDS with his wife Sharlyn "Shar" by his side. Services for Larry will be held on Friday November 17th, 12:30 PM at Merle Hay Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Visitation and reception will immediately follow from 1:30-3:30pm. Larry was born March 16, 1941, to Robert ``Bob" & Elgia Pardubsky in Cedar Rapids, Iowa where he grew up and graduated from Washington High School. After his studies at the University of Iowa, Larry began his career in banking where he met his wife Sharlyn. Larry’s career pursuits included senior sales positions at NCR and Norstan, where he ultimately retired. Following his retirement, Larry enjoyed working part-time at Hy-Vee in Windsor Heights and Willow Creek Golf Course.


In addition to his love for family and friends, Larry’s passions and pursuits included coaching, fishing, golfing, hunting, playing cards, competitive softball and cheering on the Iowa Hawkeyes football team. Larry made a lasting impression on many throughout his periods of coaching and mentorship, which he took great pride in. A passion for friendly competition and life-long comradery served as guiding principles throughout his amazing and well-lived life.


Larry will be missed by his wife Sharlyn, children Mike (Amy) Pardubsky, Sarah (Paul) Rypma, grandchildren Kenna Acheson, Joe Pardubsky, Dane, Sloane, Bo and Tripp Rypma, his brother Don Pardubsky and a host of family members and friends.


The family would like to thank Larry’s numerous co-workers, teammates and golf buddies for their visits while fighting his health battle. A special thank you to Shar’s sisters, Karla, Pam and brother-in-law Harley for their constant support during this difficult time. Additionally, the family greatly appreciates the efforts of Drs. Amy Hughes and Kathryn Lindgren throughout his final days.
