Larry K. Mrky was born on September 14, 1942, in Ord, Nebraska, and passed away peacefully on May 8, 2026, at Kennybrook Village in Grimes, Iowa.
Family was the center of Larry’s life. He was a devoted husband, father, Papa/grandfather, brother, and friend who truly loved supporting those he cared about. Larry coached Little League baseball for his son Mark and later coached softball for his daughters, Michele and Megan. As his family grew, so did his dedication to cheering on his grandchildren. Whether it was softball, track, cross county, volleyball, or wrestling, Larry proudly attended countless games and meets, often traveling out of town and wearing team shirts to show his support. He even traveled to Florida to watch his grandchildren compete in baseball and track.
Larry is survived by his loving wife, Sondra; his son, Mark (Deb) Mrky; his daughters, Michele (Tom) Alexander and Megan Mrky-Webster; his grandchildren, Jack and Sam Mrky, Emily, Caitlin, and Jacob Alexander, and Alli and Sarah Webster; his sister, Debb Rae; longtime family friends Rodger and Pam Wurst; and many family members and friends whose lives were touched by his kindness, warmth, and loving spirit.
Visitation will be held on Saturday, May 30, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Funeral services will follow at 11:00 a.m., with burial at Chapel Hill Cemetery.
