Joyce Eileen Walker, 93 years young, passed away Thursday, September 26, 2024. With her at her time of passing were sons Jeff & Greg and Jeff’s wife, Terri.
A visitation will be held in her honor at the Merle Hay Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Rd Des Moines, on Saturday, October 12th from 9 – 11 am. A celebration of life will follow immediately at 11 am, burial will be in the Chapel Hill Gardens cemetery.
Eileen was born on January 8, 1931, to Leona B. Williams and Wesley Brohau in Prescott, Iowa. She was raised in big part by her maternal grandmother Rose Williams (known to us kids as Grandma Pumpkin - she called us punkins). She was united in marriage to Wayne R. Walker on September 15, 1953. Eileen was a homemaker and mother to four children. She also worked for more than twenty years as Church Housekeeper for her church as well as a deaconess and was vice-president of the Christian Women’s Fellowship in 1972. Eileen also worked for McDonald’s for twenty years. During those times she also found time to be a Girl Scout leader where her daughter Judy was a member.
Eileen enjoyed going to the Playhouse with friends and loved playing cards and board games. She was also a great cook (very particular) and a good listener when you needed her.
Eileen is survived by her two sons Jeff (Terri) and Greg and grandchildren Aaron, Adam and Randi Leigh. Eileen was preceded in death by her husband Wayne, her daughter Judy and most recently in July 2024, her youngest son, Barry.
