Joe Grenko was born on January 21, 1967, at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa, and passed away at his home in Windsor Heights on September 16, 2026.

Joe was known for his love of the Green Bay Packers and the rock band KISS. He was quick to share a smile and was always ready to give you one of his “gentle” nudges whenever he saw you. Joe had a way of bringing a little fun and laughter to those around him.

When Joe wasn’t watching his beloved Packers play, he could often be found working on a puzzle. He also enjoyed spending time with friends, simply getting together to hang out and enjoy one another’s company. Those everyday moments brought Joe happiness, and the friendships he shared were very special to him.

Joe is survived by his sister, Mary; brothers, John (Deb) and Andrew; and his Mainstream Living family, who were an important part of his life.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Rose, and his sister, Marilyn.

Joe will be remembered for his smile, his playful personality, and the simple joy he found in spending time with the people he cared about. He will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all those whose lives he touched.

Family and friends are warmly invited to gather in remembrance of Joe on Friday, September 25, 2026, from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50310. This time together will offer an opportunity to share memories, celebrate Joe’s life, and remember the smiles and special moments he brought to those who knew and loved him.
