Jerry Steinmetz

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Jerry H. Steinmetz, who left us peacefully on October 18, 2024, at the age of 86. Born to Herbert and Augusta Steinmetz in Missouri.

Jerry served his country honorably in the Air Force as a mechanic, where he developed a strong work ethic and a commitment to excellence that would carry him throughout his life. After his service, he embarked on a successful career as a computer programmer, working for several prominent corporations including Massey Ferguson, Nestlé, and Citibank. 

An avid bowler, Jerry spent countless hours enjoying the sport, forming lasting friendships and cherished memories along the way. He embraced life with a joyful spirit and a warm smile, bringing light to all who knew him.

Jerry was preceded in death by his wife Gwen and his parents, Herbert and Augusta Steinmetz. He is survived by his two children, Mike Steinmetz and Terrie (Brian) Nebel; his stepdaughter, Laura (Chad) Axtell; eight grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and his sister, Cynthia (Allen) Lindahl. 

A visitation and service will be held on November 1st from 10:00 am - 11:00 am with funeral service to follow at 11:00 am -11:30 am at Merle Hay funeral home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310. Burial to follow at Iowa Veteran's cemetery in Adel at 12:30.
