Jerry Madison

Jerry Bernard Madison, 82, of Des Moines, IA died Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Methodist Hospital. He was surrounded by members of his family at the time of his passing.


Jerry “B” Madison was born on January 11, 1940 in Des Moines, IA. He was the son of Jewel Madison and Geraldine Jewett. Jerry loved the Lord and was saved as a child. He attended East High School and was meant to be a Scarlet, living only a few blocks north of the school on Fremont Street.


J.B. joined the worked force soon after high school. Most notably, he worked as a machinist at Delavan Manufacturing Company, he assisted Des Moines residents as housing inspector and rounded out his career as an armored truck driver for Lewis System.


Left to cherish his memory are his sisters, Jane Baker (Howard), Kathy Dysart (Jerry), Carol Williams; brother Donald Williams; daughters Sherri Byars, Kyna Clemons (George), Denise Madison; sons Jerry Vaughn, Randy Madison (Bernadette), Neil Madison (Robin), Justin Madison, Jason Madison (Megan Elgin); former spouse Kitty Madison, Stepdaughter Glennia Sellers; numerous nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and cousins.


Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; stepmother Ada Madison; aunts Kathryn Beverly, Evelyn Carter, Margaret Smith, Cecil Madison, Josephine Brooks, Mini Rhodes; uncles John Jewett, William Jewett, Floyd Madison, Lenard Madison, Melvin Madison and Roy Madison.


Jerry’s going home celebration will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022. A visitation is planned from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home located at 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Jerry’s funeral services will also be held right after the visitation in the funeral home from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m.


Friends and family can continue celebrating Jerry’s life following the proceedings by heading over to The Thoreau Center located at 3500 Kingman Boulevard, in Des Moines. A reception is scheduled from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m.
