Jerry Lynn McCullough died March 12, at Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown of Alzheimer's. Jerry was born in Melcher-Dallas, Iowa, on February 20, 1941, to Millard and Opal (Kizer) McCullough. He was raised in Melcher-Dallas. He was the youngest of 11 children. Jerry would share the story about being in the top 10 of his class. The joke was it was a class of ten. He built lifelong friends from those days. When he was boy, he would try to outrun the train by his home with his dog Buttons.
Before he reported to the Army in 1963, Jerry had started a 30-year career with John Deere, in Ankeny, starting on June 10, 1959. He was proud to have served in the Army and his time with John Deere. Jerry often shared fond memories (shenanigans) with the friends he made at both.
Jerry and Linda Mosher were married November 19, 1965. They moved to Waukee in 1966. Together they had three children, Tod, Sheri and Kari. They all played sports and he was proud of them.
He had his own construction company building garages. He enjoyed taking classes and learning in order to better himself. Jerry and Linda built four homes in rural Waukee. He loved sports, hard work, and cared about helping people. He did not know a stranger. He loved getting people together for class reunions, John Deere coffees, breakfast at the American Legion in Bondurant and Veterans Day at the Iowa State Fair. Jerry enjoyed traveling to see family and friends in Oklahoma, Texas, Laughlin, and Las Vegas. Linda liked that better and going to casinos for breakfast and lunch and horse racing. He loved attending the grandchildren's sporting events (they were good). He would tell you how good they were and then... he would tell you again.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Linda, and three children, Tod (Laura Jensen) McCullough, Sheri (Gary) Storm and Kari (Scott) Lilly. He is also survived by five grandchildren, Megan (Matt) Cole, Brandon McCullough, Shelby (Dan) Kelley, Rebecca (Ben) Corrigan, and Sarah Lilly, five great grandchildren, Trey Parker and Leo Storm Corrigan, Atticus Dean and Ivy Elaine Cole, and Emma Rae Kelley. Two sisters-in-law Barbara McCullough and Emily McCullough. He was deeply loved by his many nieces and nephews.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents and his siblings Ruth Evelyn (Harlan) Muse, Margaret Jane (Orlin) Headrick, Helen Darlene (Archie) Cowan, Millard Joseph “Jr” (Darlene) McCullough, Norma Carol (Vance) Vrban, Charles “Keith” McCullough, James “Donald” (Janice) McCullough, Betty Joan (Raymond) Sharpnack, John Leslie (Connie) McCullough, Robert Dale McCullough.
The family is deeply grateful to the many friends who provided their support and wonderful memories. The family would like to thank Dr. Shah for his exceptional care and attention throughout the beginning of this disease and the wonderful staff at Iowa Veterans Home whose friendship and kindness ensured his comfort for the past four years.
