Janice Beth Swanson, born on March 7, 1940, passed away on March 25, 2026, from
complications of Alzheimer’s Disease. Janice spent her working life as a loyal legal
secretary, working for many years with Attorney Paul Ahlers at the Ahlers Law Firm. In
her personal life, Janice always wanted to help others and was unfailingly kind. She
enjoyed playing clarinet in the Urbandale Community Band and loved her cats,
Smokey and Bandit.
Janice had been a resident of Scottish Rite Park since 2019 and enjoyed making new
friends there. An informal Open House Celebration of Life/Thank You to the Staff will
be held on March 31, 2026, from 10 AM to 11AM in the Bistro of Scottish Rite Park, 2909
Woodland Ave, Des Moines, Iowa. In lieu of flowers, Janice would have loved any
donations be made to the Animal Rescue League of Iowa, or any other charity of your
choice.
Janice is survived by her nephews, Dennis (Karen), David (Lisa) and Daniel (Jennifer)
Doidge, her friend and caregiver, Deb Townsend Lind, and good friends, Lloyd and Julie VonHagen.
Those waiting to greet her in Heaven are her beloved husband, Jerry (Slim) Swanson, her parents, Herman and Bethene Doidge, brother, Darrell Doidge, best friend, Dixie Jeffries and her sweet cats.
A special thanks goes out to the amazing staff at Scottish Rite Park who took such
good care of Janice…they are truly angels in our midst!
