October 5, 1937 ~ August 24, 2020
On August 24, 2020, we all lost a very special person as Jim went to meet the Lord. Jim was so special to so many.
Jim lived in Van Meter for many years with his wife Carleen. He currently resided in Des Moines with his loving companion and special friend Barbara Brown. Jim was a prior deputy sheriff and police officer, volunteer firefighter and building engineer for West Des Moines schools. Along with owning his own business ABC Chimney Sweeps for over four decades.
Jim loved to go fishing in Canada and went up there for several years with his family. He was a member of the Mid Iowa Bass Masters for over 25 years. He also loved to go hunting and camping with his family. He and Barb for the last few years enjoyed camping up in Boone, Iowa with her family and he always looked forward to their time together. Jim recently retired at age 80 and became a snowbird in Texas.
He will be dearly missed by his friends and family.
Jim was preceded in death by his wife Carleen of 57 years. He has left behind a daughter, Suzy Blake; and two sons, Dave (Brenda) and Tim Roberts. Also surviving are his companion Barb Brown; four grandchildren: Amber (Trevor) King, Autumn Roberts, Nathan (Meagan) Roberts, and Megan Blake; two step grandchildren, Danielle (Josh) VanRiper and Tyler Brown; and eight wonderful great grandchildren. Jim loved spending time with all his and Barb’s families.
Jim you will always be loved and remembered!
