James (Jim) Kendrick

James (Jim) Kendrick, 58, passed away on December 20, 2025, at the Des Moines Rehabilitation Center.


Jim was born on December 8, 1967, at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama. He graduated from Garrigan High School in Algona, Iowa, in 1985.


Jim was an avid sports fan and gifted sports statistician who especially loved the Iowa Hawkeyes, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Iowa Cubs. Jim also loved watching NASCAR. His favorite sport was racquetball, and he was also a big fan of country music. Jim took great pride in his janitorial work at the Principal Building and was known for his strong work ethic.


Jim overcame his disabilities throughout his life and did so with determination, kindness, and a positive spirit. He was a friend to all and maintained many long-lasting friendships over the years. Above all, Jim was deeply loved by his family and cherished by those who knew him.


Jim is survived by his parents, Bill and Judy Kendrick (Bedford Heights, OH); his brothers, Duane Kendrick (San Diego, CA) and Robert Kendrick (Berea, OH); his sister, Kelly Kendrick (Calivoso) (Murrieta, CA); his best friend, James Calby (Des Moines, IA); and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.


A Celebration of Life will be held on Friday, December 26, 2025, from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa 50310.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to the YMCA of Des Moines.
