James H. Lovell (Jim) passed from this life on Monday January 25, 2020, at the age of 83.
Jim was born on February 18, 1937 to Lawrence and Grace (Schoonover) Lovell and grew up in Des Moines, Iowa. He was a member of the National Guard before starting a career working for the Rock Island Railroad and retiring as a machinist for DICO Incorporated. He spent the years between as a small business owner running a gas and service station in Des Moines and Lovell’s Lounge in Norwalk, IA. Most of all Jim enjoyed camping, boating and spending time with his family.
Jim is survived by daughter Georgia (Randy) Strange and sons James Pieart and Monty (Marlisa) Lovell. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Chris (Sarah) Strange, Don (Jen) Strange, Tyler (Emily Heimbaugh) Thompson, Jami (Chad) Olson, Andrew (Stephanie Bledsoe) Lovell, Matthew Lovell, Justin Lovell and 13 great-grandchildren. In addition, he is survived by a sister, Louana Anderson and a brother David Lovell. Jim is preceded in death by his parents, daughter Teri Jo Thompson, sisters Marilyn Thompson and Virginia Michael, and brother Darrell Lovell.
Visitation will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home on Monday, February 8, 2020 from 10:00 a.m.-11:00 a.m. followed by a private funeral service.
