Izetta (Izzy) Bennett, 89, passed away unexpectedly on March 5, 2021, at Northridge Village Commons in Ames, Iowa.
Izzy was born September 23, 1931, in Huxley, Iowa, to Jerome and Orella Hill. She lived in Huxley and graduated from high school in 1949. Izzy worked at the Ames Daily Tribune until her marriage to Herb Bennett on November 8, 1952. They were married 61 years. She was a homemaker and worked part time at North Grand Rexall Drug; she retired in 1990. She was a member of the Gilbert Lutheran Church.
Izzy and Herb enjoyed traveling to all 50 states, Mexico and Canada. They wintered in Mesa, Arizona for 22 years. Izzy enjoyed many hobbies over the years, cooking and baking, flower gardening, crocheting, most of all—she enjoyed spending time with her family & friends, and most recently, jigsaw puzzles. She so enjoyed her time at Northridge Village Commons where she met new friends and got to enjoy new activities All who’ve known Izzy, know of her infectious smile and laughter, enjoyment of life in general and her willingness to help whenever, whoever and wherever she was needed. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her.
Izzy is survived by four children, Steve of Ames; Lori (Tom) Valline of Ankeny; Mark (Lori) of White Oak and Gary (Amy) of Ames; one sister MarJean (Don) Sutter of Pleasantville; seven grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Herb, one brother, Wes Hill; two sisters, Mayola (Leo) Smith; Joan (Toche) Terrones and infant twin grandchildren, Christopher and Monica Valline.
A private graveside service will be held for the immediate family at the Gilbert Cemetery in May.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in her honor to Gilbert Lutheran Church, St. Jude Hospital or Iowa Public Television.
