Haron Bacamugwanko, 58, of Urbandale, Iowa, passed away on December 20, 2024, after battling blood cancer and kidney failure. Haron was born on January 1, 1966, in the small city of Nyanza-Lac, Burundi.
Haron was an affectionate, dedicated, and hardworking person who always put the needs of others, especially his family, ahead of his own. He did everything he could to provide for his family.
He met his wife in 2000 in Mutabira camp, Tanzania. They married and had seven children. Later, Haron and his family moved to Kenya in 2010, to a refugee camp called Kakuma, where they lived for eight years before coming to the United States on December 12, 2018, in Lewiston, Maine. Life wasn’t easy in Maine, and they later relocated to Des Moines, Iowa, in September 2019.
Haron is survived by his wife, Yolanda, and seven children: Niyela, Elkana, Francine, Sentian, Sifa, Lewi, and Jayden.
Funeral services will be held at Living Water Evangelical Free Church of Des Moines, 2904 Kingman Boulevard, Des Moines, IA 50311, on Saturday, January 4, 2025, at 10:00 a.m., with burial to follow at The Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens Cemetery.
