Gony Dual Bijiek

Gony Dual Bijiek, age 28, of West Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on June 22, 2025. He was born on September 19, 1996, in Des Moines, Iowa, to Dual Bijiek Gony and Elizabeth Nyagak Par Ring.

Gony Dual Bijiek was always a happy young man who loved everyone, even if you meet him for the first time he would seems like he knows you already. He played basketball at Kingdom Hoops in Ankeny, Iowa when he was in High School and attended a one-year basketball training in Phoenix, Arizona from 2015-2016. He traveled to Kampala, Uganda in 2016 to visit family and relatives.

Gony completed 2 years at Marshalltown Community College and transferred to Iowa State University, and he was there for one year and majoring in Political Science. In 2017, Gony transferred to University of Iowa and studied the same major (Political Science). He did an internship with the Iowa Secretary of State’s office from 2016-2017. He will be missed so dearly by family, relatives, and friends.

Gony leaves behind his loving parents and siblings: brothers Jal, Gatdoar, Ruot, Nuer, and Dual (DJ), and sisters Liakuoth and Nyamaan. He was preceded in death by his uncle, Albino Dak Bijiek Gony.

A Funeral Prayer Service will happen on Saturday, July 19^th at 10AM at Sunset Memorial Chapel (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321).  Following the prayer service, there will be a graveside committal service at Chapel Hill Cemetery (4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310).

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to Lutheran Social Services of Iowa.
