Giles Vincent Miller, 95, passed away peacefully on Sunday, November 16, 2025, at the Kavanagh Hospice House.

A visitation will be held on Thursday, November 20, from 4:00–6:00 p.m. at the Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place on Friday at 10:30 a.m. at St. Theresa Catholic Church, 1230 Merle Hay Road in Des Moines. Burial will follow at Corpus Christi Cemetery in Fort Dodge.

Giles was born on April 16, 1930, to Peter and Mariecia (Noonen) Miller. On September 20, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Mallinger. Together, they made their home in West Des Moines.

Giles served his country honorably during the Korean Conflict as a Navy mechanic stationed in Norfolk, Virginia. He later began what would become a 35-year career with Johnson Controls, retiring in 1991. Known for his remarkable ability to fix just about anything, Giles brought that same steady dedication into all areas of his life. He loved spending time outdoors, especially camping and fishing with his grandchildren. In earlier years, he was also active with the Knights of Columbus.

He is survived by his children: Christopher, Teresa Miller Fuentes, David (Sharon), and Anne Miller; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and his sister, Sheila Cline.

Giles was preceded in death by his wife, Mary, in 2008; his parents; his infant son, Joseph; and six brothers.

Memorials may be directed to Catholic Relief Services.
