Gerald (Jerry) Thomas Farrell (86) went to the Lord peacefully on March 21st, 2026, in the company of loved ones.
Born on January 4th, 1940, in Des Moines, Iowa, Jerry lived a full life, wearing many hats. He had an entrepreneurial spirit early on and started his own real estate brokerage company, owned and operated a semi-truck and managed some major warehouse operations. He moved with Proctor & Gamble to Greensboro, NC where he started a business re-selling test strips. He spent 20+ years there before moving back to Iowa to be closer to family. It certainly wasn’t for his love of Iowa winters!
Jerry loved everything that had to do with his grandkids and great grandkids! Being as present as possible whenever possible. Showing up for as many events as he could. He was very proud of the four generation pictures he was able to take with his great grand babies. He never missed a good wedding! Jerry loved a “precisely measured” Manhattan, and he would be quick to point out if it wasn’t. He was grateful every day for his life and for his family and he projected that. Jerry will be dearly missed by the many that he loved! May all his lasting memories fill hearts and instill laughter for many years to come. Rest peaceful…
Jerry is survived by Joann his wife of 31 years, brothers Pat & Bill (Gabbi), children Michael (Kristin), Amy Schwarber (Tom), Patrick (Monica), Peter, Molly Linford, John, 12 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren + 3 on the way. Joann’s children Robin Carroll (Clif), Scott Banes (Kim), Jill Hogan (Todd), Taro Banes (Lisa), 11 grandchildren and 18 great grandchildren.
A celebration of life will take place at 4pm on Sunday May 17th at the Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel, 4400 Merle Hay Road Des Moines, IA 50130.
