Francisco Ortiz was born on August 21, 1943, in Irapuato, Guanajuato. He passed away on April 24, 2026, at home.
Francisco was full of life and deeply valued his family and faith. He enjoyed gardening and spending time with loved ones. Some of his favorite pastimes included gatherings with family and friends, listening to music, playing cards, and making carnitas and chicharrones. He will be remembered for his warmth, dedication, and the joy he brought to those around him.
He is survived by his children Evangelina Ortiz (Jorge Herrera), Leticia Ortiz, Maria de la luz (Jeff) Carey, Maria Isabel Ortiz, Juan (Alma) Ortiz, Francisco Jr. (Tammy) Ortiz, Martin Ortiz, Diana Gloria Ortiz, Reymundo (Amy) Ortiz, Veronica Ortiz, Virginia Ortiz (Antonio Rubio); 32 Grandchildren and 33 Great-grandchildren.
Francisco was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores Rangel de Ortiz, and his second wife, Lydia Ochoa Ortiz.
A visitation will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310) on Wednesday, April 29th, 2026, from 5PM to 7PM with a Rosary service starting after 7PM. A Funeral Mass will be held on Thursday, April 30th at Our Lady of the Americas Parish (1271 E 9th St, Des Moines, IA 50316) starting at 11AM. Following the Funeral Mass, a committal service will take place at Glendale Cemetery.
