Ellen Mae Barr, 84, passed away peacefully on October 29, 2025, surrounded by her loving family. She was born on June 2, 1941, in Perry, Iowa, to Frank and Margie Lamp.

Some of her happiest moments were spent outdoors with her family on countless camping trips that turned into treasured memories and lifelong stories.

A master quilter and talented seamstress, Ellen poured her heart into every project she created. Her beautifully designed quilts and the one-of-a-kind Halloween costumes she made for her children and grandchildren will forever be reminders of her love, imagination, and creativity.

She was a skilled bowler and a passionate fan of college sports, cheering for both the Iowa Hawkeyes and Iowa State Cyclones with equal enthusiasm. Above all, she was happiest when surrounded by her family, sharing in their joys and offering her love and encouragement.

Ellen will be dearly missed by everyone who knew her. She is survived by her daughter, Jan Donnelly (David); sons, Pat Kinsey (Joy), Randy Kinsey, and Corey Barr (Amy); brother, Frank Lamp (Sue); five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Family and friends are invited to gather and celebrate Ellen’s life on Wednesday, November 5 from 10 a.m.-12 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines.
