Diana Johnson

Updated: Jul 10

Diana L. Johnson, age 80, of Des Moines, IA, went to her eternal resting place on July 4, 2025. Diana was born on June 19,1945 to LeRoi and Evelyn Beers, the first of three children. She graduated from Roosevelt High School and went on to become an OB Technician for several years. In 1964, she married Edward Newman and had three children, whom she raised for several years, taking a hiatus from nursing. Later, she remarried to Paul Johnson, and they became a family of eight. Diana worked for Valley High School as a cheerleading coach. After suffering a fall that resulted in a broken hip, Diana decided to pursue another profession as a paralegal, in which she worked until retirement.

Diana’s family was her world, and she was their world. She was always volunteering at church and Hospice, sang in the choir, worked in Alter Guild at her church for many years, and participated in a lot of family events and social events. She loved to spend time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren (her precious babies, she always called them). Diana had a love for knitting & crocheting, always full of handmade gifts for her family at Christmas. She also thoroughly enjoyed traveling with her husband, Paul, who was the love of her life.

Left to remember her are her sister, Linda Anderson (Glen), brother, Allen Beers; her children, Kimberly Spencer Kline, Eddie Newman (Missy) Lynda DeKeyzer (Corey), Paul Johnson (Angela), Michael Johnson (Monique), and Jeffery Johnson (Tammy); grandchildren, Timothy Spencer (Danielle), Justin Dye (Meagan), Sydney Hinders (Jobe), Elijah Spencer (Jessi), Samuel Spencer, Josiah Spencer, Michael Kline (Summer), Mikaela Lewis (Levi), Marek Kline (Cheyenne), and Alexander Kline; Zachary Jurgens, Abby Jurgens, Mandy Jurgens, and Emma Carter; Trinity Newman; Elizabeth Johnson and Catherine Johnson; Amanda Johnson and Michaela Johnson; Britney Johnson and Cole Johnson; and numerous great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews, and cousins.

Services will be held at Luther Memorial Church, 1201 Grandview Ave, Des Moines, IA, on July 11, 2025. Visitation will be at 10:00 a.m., and the Celebration of Life will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. A luncheon will be provided.
