Clyde “Bill” Winters, 78, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on Wednesday, December 29, 2021, at Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa.
A visitation will be held from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 6, 2022, at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, Iowa 50310.
Clyde William Winters was born on August 4, 1943, in Des Moines, Iowa; the son of Alfred and Rowena (Hixson) Winters. Clyde attended Johnston High School and graduated with the class of 1962. Following his graduation, Clyde enrolled in the United States Army and then served in the National Guard for 22 years.
On September 20, 1975, Clyde married Shirley Fett at the Highland Park Lutheran Church in Des Moines, Iowa. The couple was blessed with 2 daughters, Jennifer, and Jody.
The Winters family settled in Des Moines, Iowa where Clyde worked as a Machine Operator for Fawn Engineering for 37 years.
Clyde was a member of UAW 270. He had a great interest in cars, the sports teams, Chicago Bears, and the New York Yankees. However, his greatest love of all was his grandchildren.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 46 years, Shirley, daughters, Jennifer Swangel and Jody Auxier (both of Des Moines, Iowa), grandchildren, Mason, Nicolas, Lilly, Ethan, and Hannah, and 3 great-grandchildren.
In death, Clyde rejoins his parents, Alfred and Rowena Winters, and a sister, Shirley Johnson.
