Chealy Ngov

Our beloved Chealy Ngov has passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 27, 2021 at Broadlawns Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa at 75 years old. Chealy leaves behind his ex-wife Chal, his four kids Yourn, Yinn, Thea, and Chantrea (Thanong), his siblings, and his eleven grandchildren.

Chealy immigrated to the United States after the war in Cambodia in 1983. Before escaping to the United States, he spent some time in refugee camps with his wife Chal, daughter Yourn, and sons, Yinn and Thea. Then his family was sponsored to Iowa by Dennis Trollope, Joyce Trollope, and other volunteers. They helped our family find housing, find work, learn about American culture, provided food, and clothes.

He was a loving husband, father, brother, uncle, and grandfather. He was a hardworking man and retired early to take care of his grandchildren. He was always happy and filled with laughter, it would bring smiles to those around him. His favorite things to do were to take his children and grandchildren fishing, swimming, hunting, going on picnics, enjoying nature, and to go to the casino with his kids.

Chealy was preceded in death by his parents.

Chealy will be dearly missed by his family and friends. He was the heart and soul of our family. Though he has passed on and no longer suffering he will forever be in our thoughts, prayers, and hearts.

A visitation will be held at the Merle Hay Funeral Home Chapel on Friday evening, April 2nd from 6 to 7:30 pm. A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, April 3rd at 1:00 pm, also in the Chapel. Burial will follow in the Chapel Hill Gardens Cemetery.
