Carla Sue Langworthy, 71, of Grimes, Iowa, passed away peacefully at her home on December 2, 2024. She was born on March 12, 1953, in Ord, Nebraska, to Pearl and Harry Vail. Carla was a devoted mother whose love for her family knew no bounds. Her passion for motherhood was evident in everything she did, and her care, warmth, and nurturing spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
Carla never let life’s challenges get the best of her. She had a remarkable ability to remain calm and positive, with an unwavering faith in her family and the joys of life. She found joy in singing, cooking, and tending to her garden, hobbies that brought her peace and were often shared with her loved ones. Carla’s home was always a place of warmth, love, and laughter.
She is survived by her loving husband, Edward Langworthy of Grimes; her daughters, Tanya Mart and partner David Cosgriff of Johnston, Shannon Sellner and husband Robert Sellner of Grimes, Mary Langworthy-Berber and husband Marco Berber of Grimes, Candice Langworthy of Grimes; son Chad Langworthy and wife Andrea of West Des Moines; and daughter-in-law Shannon Langworthy of Urbandale; and brother Douglas Vail. Carla’s legacy will also live on through her cherished grandchildren: Joel, Elizabeth, Leah, Calie, Kaya, Iris, Olivia, and Antonio.
Carla was preceded in death by her parents, Pearl and Harry Vail, her sisters Linda and Nancy, and her beloved son, Douglas Langworthy.
A celebration of Carla’s life will be held at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, IA 50310) on Tuesday, December 10th at 10AM. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Carla’s memory to a charity of your choice.
