Bruce Davidson

Bruce Davidson, age 75, of Des Moines, Iowa, passed away on September 24, 2026. Bruce was born on October 14, 1950, in Boone, Iowa, to Russell and Helen Davidson. He attended school in Ames and graduated from Ames High School in 1970. A proud, hard worker, Bruce dedicated many years of service to both Drake University and Methodist Medical Center.

Bruce fiercely loved his independence, his music, and spending his weekends cheering on the Kansas City Chiefs and the Iowa State Cyclones.

He held a deep love for his family. Left to cherish his memory are his siblings, Raymond Davidson, Lewis Davidson, and Linda Mertes; his nephews, Mike Simmons, Todd Simmons, Doug Davidson, Kyle Mertes, and John (Ashley) Mertes; his nieces, Debbie Miller, Brenda (Rob) Wright, Michelle Davidson, Teri Rae Azulene  and Amy (Keith) Tilton; and many beloved great and great-great-nieces and nephews.

Bruce was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Russell Davidson; his sister, Mary Lou Simmons and her husband, Ron; his sister-in-law, Tassie Davidson; and his brother-in-law, Barry Mertes.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday, September 30, 2026, at Merle Hay Funeral Home (4400 Merle Hay Rd, Des Moines, IA 50310). Family and friends are welcome to gather starting at 4:00 PM, with a celebration of life service to follow at 5:00 PM. Please join us in celebrating his memory—casual dress is encouraged, and your favorite Iowa State or KC Chiefs attire is highly welcomed.
