Bhikhiben Vallabhbai Patel, a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and friend, passed away peacefully on Saturday, May 2, 2026, at the age of 84. Born on April 5, 1942, in India, Bhikhiben lived a life defined by love, resilience, and dedication to her family.
Bhikhiben was born and raised in India, where she grew into a woman of strength and curiosity. She married her husband, Vallabhbhai Patel, and together they built a life rooted in partnership and faith. After settling in a small town, Bhikhiben contributed to her household by preparing homemade tiffins — freshly cooked lunches made with care and served to members of her community. Her cooking was more than a livelihood; it was an expression of love and connection that she carried with her throughout her life.
Bhikhiben and Vallabhbhai were blessed with five children, and she poured her heart into raising each one of them. In time, the family made the journey to the United States, where Bhikhiben once again embraced a fresh start with grace. In America, she devoted herself to her family, becoming a steady presence in the lives of her grandchildren, whom she helped raise with warmth, patience, and the same loving spirit that had guided her all along.
A woman of deep faith, Bhikhiben found joy and peace in her Hindu spiritual practice. She loved visiting the temple and attending religious gatherings and events in the community, where her presence was always welcomed. Her faith was a cornerstone of her life and a source of comfort to all who knew her.
Bhikhiben had a curious mind and a loving heart. She treasured time spent talking with her friends, attending social events, and — above all — cooking for those she loved. Her kitchen was a place of gathering, and the meals she prepared carried the flavors of home, tradition, and a lifetime of devotion.
Bhikhiben will be deeply missed by her husband, children, grandchildren, siblings, extended family, and the many friends whose lives she touched. Her legacy lives on in the values she instilled, the love she gave so freely, and the countless meals she made with her own hands and her whole heart.
A funeral service for Bhikhiben will be held on Wednesday, May 6, 2026, from 10:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Merle Hay Funeral Home, 4400 Merle Hay Road, Des Moines, Iowa. Family and friends are invited to attend, offer their prayers, and honor her memory.
Her presence brought comfort and joy to those around her, and she will be deeply missed by all who knew her.
