February 21, 1926 – March 30, 2025

Betty Jeane Fisher, 99, of Des Moines, IA, passed away peacefully on March 30, 2025, at EveryStep Kavanaugh Hospice House in Des Moines. Born on February 21, 1926, in Des Moines, Betty lived a full and vibrant life.

On October 4, 1946, Betty married Virgil Fisher, and together they raised two children, Janet and John. Betty worked as a telephone operator at Northwestern Bell for 31 years, retiring in 1984.

Her greatest joy came from spending time with family. Betty loved family gatherings, where she was known for her enthusiasm for playing Rummy King, Bingo, and other card games. She was always up for an adventure, whether it was camping or traveling with family. Betty was a devoted fan of her grandchildren’s sporting events, and she lit up the dance floor at weddings, especially when performing the chicken dance.  Betty wanted to thank her many friends who helped her along this journey and spent time with her. You were all very important and appreciated by Betty and her family.

Betty is survived by her son, John Fisher; grandchildren, Heidi (Darren) Sickerson, Jodi (Steve) Nobile, Andy (Holly) Roby, McKenzee (Brandon) Dabdoub, and Trent Fisher; great-grandchildren, Morgan (Kodjo) Adzanoh-Passah, Drew Sickerson, Madison Sickerson, Joe Nobile, Maggie (Nate) Meis, Jensen Roby, Ian Roby, Gavin Dabdoub, Kerrigan Dabdoub, Beckham Dabdoub; and great-great-granddaughter, Halani Adzanoh-Passah and brother Jack Moore. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Virgil; daughter, Janet; sister, Joan Dilliner; and daughter-in-law, Cindy Best-Fisher.

A Memorial service in Betty’s honor will be held at Free Grace United Church Des Moines, 4101 E. 42nd Street, Des Moines, on Saturday, April 5 at 11:00 a.m. with a visitation 1 hour prior to the memorial service where loved ones can gather to celebrate her life. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial contributions be directed to EveryStep Kavanaugh Hospice House and Free Grace United Church Des Moines.

Betty always lived by one simple but powerful reminder: "Be kind." She will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
