Betty Ann Hill Hines

Betty Ann Hill Hines, 86, of Des Moines, Iowa passed from this life to her eternal heavenly home on April 8, 2021. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m., Thursday, at Merle Hay Funeral Home. Her funeral will be at 11 a.m., Friday, at the funeral home.


Betty was born June 7, 1935 to Alfred and Recie Wicker. She grew up in Kellerton, Iowa. In 1954, Betty married Ernest Hill and had three children from that union: Kathryn, Cynthia, and Lyle. Later in life she married Harry “Eddie” Hines and they were married until he passed in 2012. Eddie had three sons of his own: Chuck, Cliff, and Tom.


Betty lived a full life working in ministry. She attended Echoes of Calvary and Kingsway Cathedral where she was Sunday School Superintendent, secretary, and bible college teacher. She enjoyed many years singing with The Masters Trio. Betty and her dear friend Amy Browning took a trip to the Holy Land together which was a highlight of her life. Betty also owned group homes until 2000 that assisted with mentally challenged individuals.


Betty was preceded in death by her husband, Eddie; her parents, Alfred and Recie; her daughter, Cynthia; three brothers: Ray, Donald, and Al Jr.; and three sisters: Ada, Edna, and Doris.


Left to cherish her memory are her children: Kathryn Biddle and Lyle Hill (wife Amber) both of Des Moines, Iowa; her grandchildren: Jarrod Mason (wife Sheila), Jessica Vereschagin (husband Denny), Heather Jones, Ashley Hill, Zane Hill, and Aamya Hill; her great grandchildren: Cynthia (husband Jacob), Preston, Rickey, Timothy, Noah, Joel, David, Desirae, Denise, and Wyatt; her great-great grandchildren, William and Alie; her sister-in-law, Linda Wicker; Ernie Smith who was raised by Alfred and Recie and was considered a brother; Mildred Nation who lived with Betty for many years; and many nieces and nephews.


Betty left a lasting impression on all our lives and she will be forever missed. We look forward to that blessed reunion when we all see her again. Betty, rest now in the arms of your precious savior Jesus.
