Joseph Dean Alcala was born on December 28, 1960, in Sterling, Colorado. He passed away on July 24, 2026, at the VA Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa.


Dean spent most of his life in Des Moines, where he was known for his caring heart and willingness to help anyone in need. Family was the center of his life, and he treasured every moment spent with those he loved. In his free time, Dean enjoyed drawing, painting, and cooking, finding joy in creating and sharing with others.


Dean proudly served his country in the United States Marine Corps, a commitment that reflected his sense of duty and service.


He will be deeply missed by his lifelong partner, Teresa Dyer; his daughter, Jessica Alcala; his grandchildren, E.J. Halstead, Jay Dean Irvin, and Kailyn Irvin; his brothers, David Alcala and Dennis Alcala; and his sister, Tammy Alcala, along with many other relatives and friends who will cherish his memory.


Dean was preceded in death by his father, Joseph Alcala Jr.; his mother, Nancy Eyvlynn Loveland Alcala; and his beloved granddaughter, Cadance Halstead.


In keeping with Dean's wishes, there will be no services held at this time.


Dean will be remembered for his generous heart, his love for his family, and the kindness he showed to everyone he met. His memory will forever remain in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
